Although not life threatening, food intolerances can have a huge impact on your ability to live life to the full. This is because symptoms are chronic and can have a profound effect on your work and social life. On the other hand, identifying which foods are causing problems can be challenging. This is because symptoms vary widely, and can appear anything up to 3 days after consuming a trigger food. Many common symptoms such as headaches, bloating, mood changes and fatigue can also be caused by other factors, making it hard to pinpoint where the real problem lies. Following an exclusion diet can be helpful, but as more than one food is often involved, the process can be lengthy and exasperating when all you want to do is gain relief from your symptoms. Food intolerance testing does away with this “trial and error” approach, and definitively identifies the foods that are causing you problems.

The test involves nothing more than a simple pinprick, and the sample, once collected, is sent to the lovely folk at Lorisian, a dedicated hospital standard laboratory with over 30 years experience in the field of diagnostic testing. All of the test results are overseen by a medical doctor and then forwarded to me. A bespoke nutritional program can then be devised.

Here’s how it works:

When foods and drinks are digested, the proteins within them are broken down into smaller fragments which are easier for the body to absorb. However, larger fragments can also pass through, and sometimes the body reacts by attacking them using antibodies called Immunoglobulin G’s (IgG). The food intolerance test analyses these IgG antibody reactions to give you a complete breakdown of all the foods which may be problematic for you. The cost of the food intolerance testing service includes a 30-minute assessment to discuss your current issues, plus the laboratory test. Follow up consultations to discuss results are priced at £30. This includes take away resources to support you in making any necessary dietary changes and links to relevant books and websites to help you make these changes. It goes without saying that as with all my herbal clients, free email support is available during office hours and for the duration of your time working with me.
